Homeowner Growing and Maintenance Tips:
Prefers infertile loam or average soil with medium moisture and very well-drained conditions. Does best in full sun and tolerates a wide range of soils except wet, poorly-drained ones. Pruning can be done very lightly in late winter or early spring as needed or if blooming is not important the plant can be cut back further to encourage vigorous new growth. Mulching is beneficial.

Common Name: Smokebush
Upright, loose-spreading, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with fairly round or ovate leaves in shades of purple, yellow or green. Fall color varies but may be yellow, orange or purplish-red. Insignificant yellow flowers bloom in branching, terminal clusters in spring and once spent become billowy and hairy turning pink or purplish in summer. Great mass planted, in shrub borders or as a specimen.
