Genus Overview: Wisteria
Common Name: Kentucky and American Wisteria
Deciduous vine with compound, odd-pinnate, green leaves. As they mature the stems of these vines become twisted and trunk-like. Long racemes of fragrant, pea-like, blue to lilac-purple flowers bloom in late spring to early or mid-summer. Flowers are followed by velvety or smooth, bean-like seed pods which mature in fall and may persist into winter. Great for climbing sturdy trellises and arbors, fences and terrace walls.
