Genus Overview: Thuja

Common Name: Arborvitae

Evergreen shrub with a compact, low-growing or tall, dense, upright habit. Foliage is scale-like, aromatic, and yellow-green to green in flattened sprays with red-brown bark that exfoliates in mature plants. Small, reddish, yellowish or brown pollen cones open in early spring to early summer and are followed by brown seed cones in late summer to fall. Great for privacy screens, foundation plantings, borders and as a specimen.
