Shaping can be done through the growing season and heavier pruning in early spring, do not prune beyond green growth. Mulching is beneficial.

Low-growing, mounding evergreen shrub with spiny, blue-green to gray-green needle-like foliage. Pollen cones emerge in early spring. Fleshy, berry-like seed cones mature blackish in color but may be absent on cultivated plants. Great as a groundcover, in rock gardens, slopes and mass plantings.
