Clump-forming, late winter blooming perennial. Large, cup-shaped, generally nodding flowers in a range of colors and bicolors such as white, yellow, pink and purple with contrasting yellow stamens. Flowers are usually held in clusters at the top of thick, flowering stems. Blooms from late winter to spring. Wide, palmate, glossy green leaves sprout from the crown. Foliage is evergreen in warmer climates and deciduous in very cold climates. Great under shady trees and large shrubs, in borders and woodland gardens.

Homeowner Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Prefers organically rich, humusy, well-drained soil in part to full shade. Plants do well with supplemental water during dry spells but once established they are drought tolerant. Cut back flowering stems after blooming to encourage new growth. Plants can be divided in spring and will self-seed if spent flowers are left.
